About Samantha Moses

Painting the felt experience of nature

My work is the visible trace of a life being lived.

Inspired by the Australian landscape, my paintings explore the emotional resonance of our connection with the natural world: the feelings of stillness, belonging, wonder and renewal that arise when we slow down and pay attention.

Living on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Central Victoria, I draw from moments gathered through walking, observation and time spent in silence. I am interested not only in how a place looks, but in how it feels: the energy, memories and sensations it awakens within us.

My paintings begin with colour and intuitive mark-making. Through layering, erasure and unexpected discoveries, I allow each work to unfold, seeking a point of resonance where the painting begins to reveal itself.

Rather than depicting a landscape, I aim to evoke its presence.

Through abstraction, I explore the space between seeing and feeling. My paintings are an invitation to slow down, breathe and reconnect with the wonder of being alive.

I pay my respects to the Traditional custodians of the land on which I live. I pay my respects to their Elders, past and present.
